JAKARTA - Yogyakarta State University (UNY) created the Aluminum Melting Furnace. Even though the Smelting Furnace is easy to find, the UNY Smelting Furnace is different from other Smelting Furnaces here guys.

The Aluminum Melting Furnace created by UNY is fueled by gas, unlike other melting furnaces that use charcoal and diesel fuel. With gas fuel, the Aluminum Smelting Furnace is cleaner and pollution-free, and is more efficient when compared to charcoal and diesel fuel.

From an operational perspective, this gas-fired furnace is more concise and easy to use and maintain. Thus, the Aluminum Smelting Furnace made by UNY is environmentally friendly.

Nowadays, aluminum casting is developing rapidly along with the demands of the industrial world, such as Vocational High Schools (SMK) as educational institutions that prepare graduates to enter the workforce that are able to provide real experience in the world of work including aluminum casting.

This is the reason UNY Arianto Leman Soemowidagdo, M.T., Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Education at the Faculty of Engineering of UNY developing Aluminum Smelting Furnaces for learning in SMK. After going through the process of study, design and manufacture intensively at the Laboratory of Materials and Processing of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education, the Aluminum Smelting Furnace was given its use to SMK Muhammadiyah Prambanan. The handover was witnessed by the Chair of the Machining Engineering Study Program, teachers, and students.

Then accepted by the Head of Prambanan Muhammadiyah Vocational School Drs. Anton Subiyantoro, M.M. then continued with the installation and trial use which was guided directly by Arianto and two students of the Department of Mechanical Engineering FT UNY.

Principal of Muhammadiyah Prambanan Vocational School Anton Subiyantoro said his gratitude for the attention of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Education of UNY for its concern for the world of education, especially vocational high schools.

"With the presence of the aluminum smelting furnace, the role of vocational schools is increasingly strengthened in presenting real learning or hand-on experience as the main characteristic of vocational learning, "he said as reported by the page UNY, Wednesday (02/19/2014).

In addition, FTY UNY Mechanical Engineering Education Lecturer Arianto Leman Soemowidagdo revealed, the development of this tool is a tangible manifestation of the role of higher education in the world of education.

"Hopefully in the future, there will be a synergistic relationship between secondary education, especially vocational schools and universities, in harmony with the spirit of higher education," he said.
